The Sunday Best is a collection of articles I’ve curated from the furthest reaches of the internet for your reading pleasure.
Every week, I scan hundreds of headlines, read dozens of posts, and bring you the best of the best to save you time and mental energy.
Financial Independence (FI) is a primary focus, but it’s an awfully broad topic. I tend to approach FI and early retirement from a fatFIRE perspective and through the lens of a physician, so expect to see those biases in the selected articles.
Related topics that have become recurrent themes include early retirement, selective frugality, tax issues, travel, physician issues, and of course, investing.

I was humbled to be invited as a guest on Morningstar’s Long View Podcast with Christine Benz & Jeff Ptak. I may have given 3-star answers to 5-star questions, but there’s likely a pearl or two in there for you. Leif Dahleen: Finding Financial Independence.
On the Money Meets Medicine Podcast, Dr. Jimmy Turner and Ryan Inman discuss a dilemma that has no easy answer. MMM 77: Should Physicians Save for Retirement or Help Their Family?
There are all sorts of models for physician compensation, and the Prudent Plastic Surgeon discusses the pros and cons of a bunch of them. Doctors, How Do You Want To Make Your Money?
If you’d like to make money not from work but from leveraged home ownership and rental properties in a particular real estate market, Republic has a passive option for you. Introducing Cityfunds: Index-Type Investing for Residential Real Estate.
Real estate funds typically pass through tax advantages to investors. There are plenty of other low and no tax investment opportunities, says The Young and the Invested.

Can working a bit less make you a happier, more productive person? That just might be the case according to Rich Haridy of New Atlas. Iceland’s short work week trial declared an “overwhelming success.”
Parenting is work, too, but I’d never suggest one should do less of it. Dr. Sara Hart-Unger at The SHU Box recognizes the challenges of parenting and the realization that you can have anything (within reason) but you can’t have all the things. Tradeoffs + Parenting is Hard.
If these prices keep rising, the Afford Anything blog will be renamed Afford Maybe a Couple of Things. On the Road Again
For the 2nd time in 8 months, I find myself in Asheville, NC, a picturesque city full of history in the mountains of western North Carolina.
I’m here for DLP’s Prosperity event, a conference that has easily exceeded my expectations. I’ll have more to tell you after the show is over, I promise.
It seems that every time I leave home, my laptop craps out on me. 3 keys on the keyboard refused to work when I fired it up late Wednesday evening, so I’ve remapped the F5 key to C, the squiggle to the left of 1 to be my Y, and the forward slash is now my Backspace.
It’s probably time for a new computer, but I’ve still got my sorta-trusy old laptop and it’s now packed to meet up with me in Chicago tomorrow. I had to hit F5 twice to type the name of that city, and 3 more times to finish this sentence.

Hey, have fun in Orlando guys! We just got back from vacation, so I guess it’s that time of year.
Enjoy all the time with your family! I know I did!
Thank you, Mr. Tako!
It’s been 15 years since I lived in Florida, and I don’t miss these hot, humid summers. The afternoon thunderstorms are kind of cool, though.
Cheers!

Actually…I’d call your responses to the fairly tough Morningstar interview questions wholly 5 star: thoughtful, sincere, and helpful to many listeners/readers. Thank you for taking the time to participate and make it available to your and M* readers!
You’re too kind!
Cheers!

The Morningstar interview was top notch! Best mix of technical and practical FI talk yet!
